Amrita Singh is a prominent Indian television and movie actress. She was a famous actress in 80’s & 90’s and still appears in numerous roles in films and TV nowadays. She keeps a lower public profile and only delivers a few interviews. Amrita Singh was born on 9th February, 1958 in Hadali, a town of Khushab District in Punjab, Pakistan. She was born to a Muslim mother named Rukhsana Sultana and a Sikh father named Shivinder Singh Virk who was an army officer. Her mother was a civil associate of Sanjay Gandhi all through Indian Emergency in 1970s. Amrita Singh joined Modern School New Delhi and is fluent in Punjabi, Hindi and English.

In 1983, Amrita Singh made her first Bollywood debut with the movie Betaab, an massively successful movie in which she was coupled with co-actor Sunny Deol. This was rapidly followed by a series of megahit movies such as Mard, Sunny, Saaheb Chameli Ki Shaadi, Naam and Khudgarz. Amrita Singh also received Filmfare Award for the best supporting actress. She made a decision to retire into personal life and she ultimately left acting after her performance in the movie Rang.

Amrita Singh returned back towards acting in the year 2002 with the movie Shaheed, wherein she played the role of mother of Bhagat Singh. She appeared in Indian television industry with Ekta Kapoor’s drama serial Kavyanjali, aired on Star Plus in the year 2005. In the same year, Amrita Singh won admiration for her acting in a negative role for the movie Kalyug. Enduring her acting journey, she played in the movie Kajraare in the year 2010, and also performed in the movie Aurangzeb in which she was coupled with Jackie Shroff. In the year 2014, Amrita Singh was appeared in the movie 2 States, directed by Dharma Productions, depicting the role of co-actor Arjun Kapoor’s Mom. In 2016, she performed in Flying Jat playing the role of Tiger Shroff’s mother and presently in 2017 she seemed in acclaimed drama serial Hindi Medium. She played the role of a principle for a glance.

Amrita Singh married to Saif Ali Khan in the year 1991. Both of them get married in an Islamic ceremony. Saif Ali Khan is the son of former test cricket Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi. In spite of controversies, they keep on their marriage. Amrita Singh gave up acting after her marriage with Saif Ali Khan. The couple divorced in the year 2004 after their thirteen years of marriage.
